shopautodotca seocontest Day 5

wow sorry for not updating yesterday. The shopautodotca seocontest is going crazy right now. All the sites in the shopautodotca seocontest are fluctuating like crazy right now. I think it has to do with the timing of the cache copies of each site. This shopautodotca seocontest site in particular is doing some crazy stuff. The other day the main page dropped out of the index, yet the subpage of the first post stayed in. WTF! In all my years of SEO I've never seen anything like that happen, but it did. So I dropped down to like mid 90's in the ranks for shopautodotca seocontest. Now the main page is at least back in but its only ranked #20 and i still have a cache date of May 25th (the first day). I don't know whats going on but this is definitely a weird situation for me. I've never been in an seo contest before so i hope this normal. :)

On the absolutely side of kick ass news, Jon's shopautodotca seocontest site jumped into the #4 for the terms "shopautodotca seocontest" spot on its SECOND DAY! That is amazing. However his cache date stayed the same, his 301 redirect seemed to have made him flux down to the third page. I hope it's just a fluke. It probably is, but at least there is some hope, if he can make it into the top 5 in such a short amount of time than he should have no problem doing it again. Hopefully after my cache date updates I can jump in there to.

Yesterday I decided to start my linking campaign. I managed to get about 20k backlinks all with the anchor text similiar or exactly to shopautodotca seocontest. If at least 1% get credited by the end of the contest we should be easily number 1. I'm seriously wondering though if my blogspot account strategy was a bad idea. I've never had a legit blogspot account before. Only a ton of spam which works great. Who knows? Tomarrow if things are still subpar I may decide to pull out the big guns. We'll have to see. :)

Good luck everyone!

Shopautodotca Seocontest Day 3

Alrighty, I got a couple spare minutes today to work on this. Less than 15 to be exact so I'll make this extremely quick. I moved up 3 positions today so I'm now ranked #23 for the term Shopautodotca Seocontest. Cool cool, except that isn't the most important news on this contest today. Since it's technically day 2 in the index that means I'm close enough to the third indexed day to begin calculating my point of entry. The point of entry is the position you can place any given landing page (gateway page) in the index with only entry level promotion and within a given amount of time. My given amount of time of course is between 24-48 hours. The entry level promotion is the same promotion I did on this site between the time I made it and the time it showed up in the index. The point of entry is usually calculated to be between 5 positions ahead of where your currently at on the third day and 10 positions behind. So my point of entry would be between 23-5 and 23+10. So between positions 18 through 33. The midpoint being of course the average between the two. So my midpoint of entry would be about 25-26. We'll say 26 because I like to compensate for unforeseeable circumstances.

What do we do with this info? Well we'll have to create a few keyword real estate pages. Keyword Real Estate is where you create accounts on various places, just like Blogspot with your keywords in them, you throw up some landing pages and push link relevancy to your main site. First we'll need to know how many keyword real estate site's we'll need to get into the top 5 positions. This can be done through a simple formula I like to use. Granted, its not the most scientific of formulas but it's proven itself too often to discredit it.

The Formula
First, you take the avg inbound links of the top 5 sites and then you average them together. Here's what we got
#1-937
#2-2,191
#3-7,581
#4-180
#5-702
Average: 2,318
Then you take that number and divide it by the difference between 100 and the entry midpoint determined above.
So the formula would be Top5avg/(100-Midpoint) = # of Keyword Real Estate Pages
So if our midpoint is 26 than the position difference in the 100 range would be 74. So our math would look like this 2,318/(100-74) = 31.32. I like to always round up on the first float point so that would make our total 32 sites.

Therefore I'll need create about 32 landing pages on various venues in order to break into the top 5. There is of course a deminishing factor which states that for every month it takes you to break into the top 5 than you will need to create about 10% more gateway sites. With the competitive nature of an SEO contest like Shopautodotca Seocontest of course I'd have to double that to 20%. Fortunately though the contest ends in only 2 week so I can assume 32-40 will suffice just fine.

So I'm off to create a few Keyword Real Estate Landing pages for my cars and auto parts SEO site. Have a great day! :)

Shopautodotca Seocontest Day 2

Well it's been a little over 24 hours since I started the Shopautodotca Seocontest. Got some good news already.

Looks like Google picked me up sometime last night. 24 hour indexing is pretty snazzy, but anyone who knows who I am also probably knows how I did it. However what they don't know, is how I am also ranking #27 at the current moment. 26 if you use the quoted version "Shopautodotca Seocontest." :)

Jon hasn't put up his damn site yet. So far it's just a Wordpress error. Config.php files are hard to edit? No but they are time consuming though, and I know for a fact he has better stuff to do. All well, I'm sure he'll get it up soon. In the mean time I'm wondering how much time I should dedicate to this contest. Should I do an update here everyday to let you guys know how it's going? Tell ya what, I'll update whenever I remember to do so. I'll try to put in as many as possible, but no promises on this everyday crap. I'm already in the index and ranking in the top 30 what more do you want from me? *evil grin*

Have a great Memorial Weekend!
ps. Be sure to drive safe this weekend with your automobile cars. Is it stuffy in here? :)

Shopautodotca Seocontest

This is my entry for the Shopautodotca SEOcontest. It's a contest sponsored by Shopauto.ca. I'm entering this contest on May 25th, 2007. The contest started on January 15th and ends on June 15th. So as far as SEO contests go I'm way late. I really don't plan on putting a ton of effort into it. In fact I'm just going to do this to help out my buddy Jon Waraas (you should check out his SEO blog it's really great). The site he is using is Shopautodotca SEOcontest. So far it looks like his strategy is to setup shop on an older 2 year old domain with some old link authority. He put his page on a subpage of his site rather than a subdomain which I think is a solid strategy due to the fact that he's entering the contest just as late as I am. By using Blogspot I'm utilizing an old authority domain with my subdomain. This is sometimes a decent strategy although blogspot has been known to get spammed quite a bit so it has been devalued as far as quick indexing goes. His strategy will probably work much better than mine, which is why I'm helping him instead of him helping me.

I could go with the good ol' proven strategy of buying a domain for all this but frankly with only 3 weeks to go it wouldn't be prudent. I would have to find a way to push a ton of authority to a brand new domain very very quickly. It almost wouldn't happen. So instead I'm just going to throw up a little landing page and see what happens. Hell, maybe if I'm lucky I may even help ShopAuto sell a few used cars. :) I'll be honest I've never really checked out their site before, but they seem pretty cool for an automotive site.

Was there a particular reason why I mentioned autos and the car stuff? Well actually I wanted my content to be perfect so I did a little bit of LSI to mimic to Google that my content subject coverage matches what they consider to be relevant to the term "Shopautodotca Seocontest" If you don't know what LSI is, you may want to check it out. In fact if I did it all right I should of made sure to mention the plural forms of cars, autos, and check this for a kick: shop clothing. haha

Thats all from me for now. :)
